BIOGRAPHY: Lisa Walford

You want to know about me? Every day is a miracle, every breath is a gift. My journey in yoga has taught me that the main thing I can control is where and how I place my attention, and that makes all the difference. I was introduced to Guruji and Iyengar yoga in 1984. And that began the rest of my life. Now, yoga is my connection between awareness and everything. The journey cultivated passion, purpose, patience, and inner peace. Along the way I have thrived with being HIV+ for thirty two years, Guruji’s gift to me.

Certified a senior Iyengar teacher, I have taught classes in Los Angeles since 1985, and workshops worldwide. I have assisted several Iyengar Yoga therapeutic training programs and developed teacher training programs for the Casey Integrated Health Institute and YogaWorks. Currently I live in Oregon, where I savor the clear light, vibrant colors, and time to practice.

I have co-authored several books on health and longevity; The Longevity Diet, Discover Calorie Restriction—The Only Proven Way To Slow The Aging Process And Maintain Peak Vitality and co-author of The Anti-Aging Plan.

Notes for People Attending Lisa’s Sessions
My hope is that you find ways to explore how being inside your being, your heart, and your body can be fun and tangible. I give many suggestions for ways to include the sensory organs and the breath as an integral part of the practice. The architecture of the pose is a practical experience that depends on your unique body. Yet how you experience yourself in the pose is quite subjective. Let's use the archtectire to explore the sanctuary inside.
I do teach in stages so that all students with all levels of experience or conditions can find something of beneift.
Please collect 1-2 bolsters, 1-2 belts, 1-2 blocks, 3-4 blankets and a chair. Something to cover the eyes is helpful.

Title:

Immunity and Stress, Building Resilience Through Iyengar Yoga

Type:

Ananda Siva Middling

Length:

2.0 hour(s)

Description:

Our practice can invite us into depths of discovery, it can also reinforce our innate competitive nature. Living in the moment is a timeless experience, a pause to cultivate the skills to be present. Perhaps building immunity is how we protect ourselves from distraction (citta vritti), distortion (viparya), and disease (dukkha) by enhancing our ability to respect inner stillness. As we learn to let go of anticipation, anxiety, and restlessness we give the body, breath and brain a chance to self-regulate.

This workshop is based on sequences that Guruji Iyengar introduced over the years to help build immunity. Inversions will be introduced in a progressive and delicious way that will include some supported asanas that focus on how vital the breath-throat-brain connection is to creating a tranquil practice.

Guruji Iyengar mentions, in Light on Life, The cure to combat the three Ss - stress, strain, and speed – can be found in the three Ws – the work of devoted practice, the wisdom that comes of understanding the self and the world, and worship because ultimately surrendering what we cannot control allows the ego to relax and lose the anxiety of its own infinitesimally small self in the infinitude of the divine.

Notes:

Please bring one bolster, two blocks, three blankets (or more), and a washcloth.
