BIOGRAPHY: Olop Arpipi

Olop Arpipi is a Senior Certified senior Iyengar Teacher who hails from Indonesia. Born in 1965 in Surabaya, he has studied many times, in Pune, with Guruji Sri B.K.S Iyengar, Sri Gitaji and Sri Prashantji.

Olop first started his yoga studies in the early 1990s with Senior Iyengar Teacher Judith Adank of Switzerland. Her Iyengar style with its focus on precision, and its attention to detail, resonated with him immediately, and led him to a deep understanding of his internal movement and landscape. This gradually led to him becoming a teacher himself. He is now mostly based in his Iyengar Yoga Studio in Bali, Indonesia. He also teaches extensively abroad, running classes and workshop in Australia, China, Europe, India, Japan, Maldives, Taiwan, and the USA.

Olop works easily and joyfully with students of all levels from beginner to advanced. His focus is always to try to to help students benefit from his extensive studies and his felt personal expericnes in his practice of yoga.

List of Olop’s Sessions

Title:

Strengthening the Back

Type:

Sat Brahma Mild

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

Asanas are done by the body, but are not totally for the body. Asanas are part of yoga and yoga is primarily for the consciousness. Yoga is for the mind. It should be done by the body for the mind. Prashant Iyengar

This session will focus on helping us to develop awareness regarding how to use the feet and the legs to help strengthen the back.

We will cover:

  • twisting asanas in a standing position
  • twisting asanas in seated position
  • inversions
  • forward bend in standing position
  • forward bend in seated position
  • backbend asanas with props
  • backbend asanas without props

Notes:

This session devoted to strenghtening the back is suitable for anyone with a fair level of health and fitness, and/or who is also fairly new to yoga. But I will be unable to accommodate those with serious oor chronic injuries; or those whose restrictions and health conditions mean they need specialised care and adjustments.
