BIOGRAPHY: Mary Devore is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Mary DevoreTeacher.  She started practicing yoga as a child with her mother. In the earlier years she found the book Light on Yoga and used that as her guide.  In her 20s she met Kofi Busia who helped her on her yogic path and to eventually travel to India to study with B.K.S. and Geeta Iyengar. Twenty years ago Mary moved to a remote mountain town and started her own yoga studio where she introduced Iyengar yoga to the community.  She enjoys teaching everyone yoga so that we may become firm in our body, steady in our mind, and have a delighted spirit: "Sthira sukham asanam".  Besides practicing and teaching yoga, Mary loves to spend time in the outdoors where she enjoys hiking, skiing, and climbing.

List of Mary’s Sessions

Title:

Mobility In Stability

Type:

Sat Brahma Middling

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

We need mental stimulation to proceed. And we need tenacity to establish ourselves when we get there.

In order to reach stability, a great deal of mobility is required. Both are necessary. Both are essential to move forward.

In this practice, we will look into both mobility and stability so we can learn how to enhance our yoga practice.

Title:

Stilling the Fluctuations of Consciousness

Type:

Sat Brahma Middling

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

"Yogah citta vrtti nirodhah". Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations in the consciousness.

Yoga is an art of mental discipline through which we culture our mind.  Yoga is both the means and the end to this process.

In this practice, we will begin to understand this state of being and how a focus on asana can help us still our mental chatter.

Title:

The goal is near for those who are supremely vigorous and intense in their practice

Type:

Sat Brahma Middling

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

Tivrasam veganam asannah

The goal—samadhi—can be near or far depending on our awareness, understanding, energy, enthusiasm, and etc.

BKS Iyengar tells us that the goal is within reach for those who are honest, pure at heart, intense, and supremely energetic.

Let us now practice with intensity and become a KEEN practitioner.

Title:

The pains that are yet to come can be, and are to be, avoided

Type:

Sat Brahma Middling

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

Heyam duhkham anagatam

Past pains are finished. Present pains are here. But future pains are yet to be revealed.

Through practicing now, we can avoid future pains.

We must learn how to adhere to yogic discipline now, so that we can face what is to come.

Let us practice now with mindfulness to ready ourselves for the future.

Title:

Effortless Effort

Type:

Sat Brahma Middling

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

Prayatna saithilyananta samapattibhyam

Perfection in an asana is achieved when the effort to perform it becomes effortless. This state of being can take time. We can cultivate it by being firm in our body, steady in our mind, and delighted in our spirit.

Let's practice asanas with a feeling of firmness and steadiness. And let's then see if this can lead us to the state of effortless effort.
