Session Description:

From my experience, I can say that pregnancy is a very special time in a woman's life. It has the potential to be exciting and full of wonderful surprises for the expectant mother and those she is closely involved with, during her pregnancy and after giving birth.

I am grateful to have given birth naturally to three healthy babies and to have been practicing yoga before, during and after the births.  Through my own personal experience and witnessing the benefits gained by my prenatal/postnatal students, I am delighted to be able to share this knowledge that I received from my teachers.

I feel blessed to have studied in Pune with Guruju, Geetaji & Prashantji during my last pregnancy and particularly for Geetaji's kind and loving, though strict, attention.  It has been an honor to have been a major player in the birth and life of the B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute of Los Angeles in its early years, and to have created and taught the prenatal/postnatal program that lasted beyond my years there.  

In this session, we will explore basic poses and their benefits throughout the expecting mother's pregnancy, and when and how to restart one's practice after giving birth.

Participants should be healthy, and in their 12th week or later, unless they have had a continuous and regular practice since before they became pregnant.

Necessary props: Non-slip yoga mat, 4 or more firm blankets, 2 or more yoga blocks, 2 yoga straps, 2 yoga chairs or 2 folding chairs with the back removed from at least one of them, yoga bolsters (optional).
