Title:

Yoga for Mid Life and Beyond/Prime of Life Yoga®

Type:

[B] Breath and Energy Work

Level:

All Levels

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

According to the late TKV Desikachar and his father Professor T. Krishnamacharya  (BKS Iyengar’s teacher) Yoga was meant for 3 stages of life. Shikshana, Rakshana and Chikitsa.  Shikshana is the building stage I refer to as “Young and Restless” Rakshana is the midlife stage and Chikitsa the one on one stage or Yoga Therapy.

All though things are changing world wide, these stages have been quite different in India than in America. In India people often mary in the early 20’s and by 40’s or 50’s looking at retirement and focusing on the spiritual path. In America at 50 many people are on their 3rd marriage and new families. As a consequence 30,000 people went to emergency rooms over a 10 year period because they simply went to the wrong kind of Yoga Class.

In this class we will focus on the Mid life or Rakshana stage and incorporate
  1. A focus on the breath.
  2. Forgiving limbs
  3. Dynamic and static movement
  4. User friendly postures
  5. How to build your own routines
