BIOGRAPHY: Paul Cabanis

I have been teaching Yoga since 1991, after learning from the Iyengar family at their Institute in Pune, India, as well as many teachers in their lineage, I have immersed myself in the study of yoga thought and practice and weave the philosophical and somatic aspects of yoga into my classes. I focus on how structural alignment leads to the simultaneous development of flexibility, strength and relaxation. When the poses are integrated, energy flows evenly throughout the system. Employing asana and pranayama, my classes explore how mind, body and breath work hand in hand to appease the ever-moving content of consciousness to the point where it can recognize itself.

I enjoy facilitating an open space to investigate the possibilities inherent in physical activity according to Hatha Yoga principles. The three main aspects of this process involve inquiry, observation and response. I aim to encourage participants to tap into their inherent intuition with regards to specific explorations as expressed in the tradition of asana and pranayama practice.

I am inspired by the long history of attempts to find a way to integrate the variety of human experiences with transcendental insight. There are so many approaches to preparing the ground to be receptive for the ineffable, non-linear and non-conceptual awakening to reality that some individuals seem to have realized. I am in awe of the efforts these individuals have undertaken to share the communicable aspects of their experience.

List of Paul’s Sessions

Title:

Meditation in Asana

Type:

[A] On The Mat / Asana Class

Level:

Open

Length:

2.0 hour(s)

Description:

Due to our largely belief-based view of life, we often neglect our inquiry into our true nature or reality in the day to day. Regular practice in this domain may assist in developing a habit of questioning our assumptions. In this workshop we will explore how to transcend our habitual, limited view of yoga practice in order to access deeper layers of experience and perhaps become aware of the experiencer.

Title:

Inner Space

Type:

[B] Breath and Energy Work

Level:

Open

Length:

1.5 hour(s)

Description:

In this workshop we will explore the basics of Pranayama to enable us to begin practicing it independently.
Pranayama sharpens the observation, refines the senses, deeply sensitizes us to the flow of creation, frees us from judgement, and refreshes our perspective.
