BIOGRAPHY: Aileen Epstein-Ignadiou

As a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher since 1983, Aileen has studied with the Iyengar family in India, and senior Iyengar teachers around the world, to whom she is grateful. Having lived and taught classes and workshops around the world, Aileen made Las Vegas her home since 1992, opening the only Iyengar Yoga Center in Nevada with the permission and blessings of Guruji.

Mother of three children, while she was pregnant Aileen studied with the Iyengars in India, using this knowledge and training to develop the prenatal/postnatal program for the prestigious B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga Institute in Los Angeles. Due to suffering from upper respiratory health issues as a teen, Aileen became interested in the therapeutic benefits of yoga from the time of her first class at the age of 18 with Michael Gefen, a student of Swami Venkateshananda, while studying at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Aileen discovered and fell in love with Iyengar Yoga in 1976 in London, England where she received her first certification. It was here that she was introduced by her teachers, Joy Hicks and Dorothy Robinson, to Kofi Busia, who became a major influence on her practice and teaching and whom she introduced to the students of Las Vegas. While living in Los Angeles, she often traveled to San Diego to study with Mary Dunn who was also a great influence and mentor.

As Aileen’s passion is helping those with health issues and injuries, she feels blessed to have assisted in the Medical classes at the RIMYI, and for the opportunity to be a Yoga Therapist, certificated through the International Association of Yoga Therapists.  Now, once again living in Israel, Aileen mostly teaches her students from Las Vegas and other parts of the US and Israel on line; and small groups and individuals in her new home in the North of Israel.

Title:

Yoga Practice After Major Life Changes

Type:

Sat Brahma Mild

Length:

2.0 hour(s)

Description:

Life is full of challenges & changes; some small, some huge and everything in between.  Yoga, particularly Iyengar Yoga, has been my pillar and safety net throughout these times.  I live with immense gratitude to those yoga teachers who have been a major influence in my life, especially Guruji B.K.S., Geeta and Prashant Iyengar.

For some, yoga practice waxes and wanes like the moon, an ebb and flow of strength and dedication to our daily practice, depending on what is happening in our lives.  It seems that sometimes our practice is strong and sometimes, just as importantly, maintenance. Though time spent on the mat may become less than we ever thought possible, perhaps we are still maintaining our yoga life-style through our choices, based on that which we have been learning since beginning our practice and study of yoga.

So, how do we get back to where we want to be in our practice, if that is even possible, after a major challenge or change in our life?  Is that what is really important?  What is Yoga?  Why Yoga?  How to Yoga?  In this class we will explore those questions and look for the answers within ourselves thriugh the teachings and philosophy of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.

Students of all levels and styles of yoga are welcome to attend this class.

Please have your yoga props within reach.  Those who don't have standard yoga props, don't worry, household items can be substituted.  It is, however, recommended to have a non-slip yoga mat.

Notes:

All levels of practitioners from any and all styles of yoga are welcome to participate in this class, which will be taught according to the teachings and philosophy of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.
