Maria Shatlanova had worked as a professional stage actress for 10 years … but then started searching for something that would help her overcome the rigours of that former life and heal. And that was when she discovered the yoga style and tradition of BKS Iyengar.
Maria felt, in her very first class, yoga's transformative power. She had soon decided to devote her life first to its practice; and then to its teaching. She has thus been practicing in the BKS Iyengar tradition since 2000, and completed her first training course in 2004. She has not looked back since. She was immediately invited to begin teaching in Moscow's Yoga Practice Center, which remains her main base. She was soon also teaching at the Methodological Center.
But while Maria might have become a certified teacher, she has never stopped seeking to learn and to improve. She started regular studies in RIMYI in 2006, having been many times since to study in Pune directly with the Iyegar family. She has also attended many seminars with Senior Teachers, some specializing in therapeutics, and such as with Faeq Biria, Gabriella Giubilaro, Rita Keller, Manouso Manos, Stephanie Quirk, Lois Steinberg, and others.
In 2007 Maria became a personal mentor to the editor-in-chief of Yoga journal in Russia; and has written numerous articles for the publication. She currently teaches on the i-Practika online platform, and hosts maany seminars and masterclasses all across Russia and abroad.
